Kidney transplants: PIMS doctors, donors and recipients felicitated

Generous donations were made by philanthropist Dr. Sohail Tanveer

ISLAMABAD: A certificate awarding ceremony to the team which initiated kidney transplants at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) was held.

Three kidney transplant operations have been  performed in ten days and the donors and recipients are healthy and fit .The donors  include a mother who gave her kidney to her son and a husband who donated his to his wife

The total expenditure of Rs300,000 on each transplant was borne by Pims. Both the mother and husband (the donors) were chief guests at  the ceremony. All the consultants appreciated this initiative of the hospital saying it’s a great help for the people who can’t afford to go to private hospitals.

Pims Head of Surgery Department Prof Tanveer Khaliq, said spoiled cases from private hospitals are coming to Pims and we are trying to improve the transplant facilities.

Dr. Sohail Tanveer said a philanthropist friend had donated eight dialysis machines that will be installed in new outpatient department for kidney problems.

Pims Executive Director Dr Raja Amjad Mahmood, said  Rs700 million is spent on Pims medicines but they have decided to take drastic and out of the box measures to revamp the hospital.
