KARACHI:

A spell of hot weather is expected to grip Karachi from tomorrow (Monday) to Thursday, during which the temperature may rise to 38 degrees Celsius, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted on Saturday.

According to the Met Office, the expected spell is a consequence of sluggish ocean currents in the northern Arabian Sea, also resulting in the suspension of sea breezes. Plus, the forecast said, humidity levels will rise during the four-day period, due to which it will feel hotter than the actual temperature.

However, the PMD ruled out the possibility of a heatwave.

Separately, Karachi Doppler Vapour Update, a private body, predicted that besides Karachi and Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Tando Allahyar, Sukkur, Larkana, Thatta, Tharparkar, Nagarparkar and Badin would also experience hot weather. The body also forecast light rain in some areas in the suburbs of Karachi.

According to the PMD, the maximum temperature is expected to be recorded at 36 degrees Celsius in the city today.
