The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed police on Tuesday to arrest an accused on the run, Shoaib alias Shooter, and present him before the court in a plea seeking the recovery of missing persons.

A two-member bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro and Justice Shamsuddin Abbasi, was hearing the plea.

The investigation officer informed the court that Shoaib had acquired bail in the missing persons case but later, he went into hiding after being nominated as an accused in the Naqeebullah murder case.

The court directed police to submit a report after recovering missing persons, and present Shoaib after arresting him within a month.

'Devise SOPs for DNA testing'

Meanwhile, a bench comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Yousuf Ali Sayeed directed police to devise standard operating procedures (SOPs) for DNA testing after consulting experts.

The court was hearing a plea seeking legislation for stricter punishments for rapists.

The petitioner's counsel raised questions on existing SOPs, stating that they were not clear.

The court directed police to devise SOPs for DNA testing, in line with international standards, after consulting.

Bail pleas

Moreover, the SHC issued a notice to the NAB while accepting the bail pleas of Nisar Khuhro in two separate NAB inquiries against a surety of Rs2 million.

The pleas moved the court to restrict the NAB from arresting him.

The court issued a notice to the NAB, restricting it from arresting Khoro in the inquiries.
