Covid-19: Islamabad Diagnostic Centre jacks up safety measures

Staff put on alert as coronavirus cases rise in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD:

After the climb in the number of coronavirus cases, the Islamabad Diagnostic Centre (IDC) has jacked up safety measures at the laboratory for visitors.

IDC is working as a dedicated facility for testing of the coronavirus in Islamabad.

IDC spokesperson said that it had been termed mandatory for the visitors to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). He added that special teams have been formed that would ensure implementation on the precautionary guidelines within the laboratory’s premises.

Though a fire cry from over 3,000 Covid-19 patients at the height of the pandemic a few montjhs ago, health officials consider the 374 active cases as a threat too. 

The spokesperson said that while patients were recovering from the disease, fresh cases keep coming forcing healthcare workers keep vigilant against the virus. He said they had also made arrangements for the people waiting for their turns outside the laboratory.

He urged the people to strictly implement SOPs to keep themselves protected against the pandemic virus and cooperate with the IDC staff.

Meanwhile, at least 45 people were infected by the coronavirus in Islamabad on Wednesday. The District Health Office (DHO) reported that the new infections included 26 men and 19 women.

The tally of infections in the federal capital so far has reached 16,252 of which 15,653 patients have fully recovered. Until now, some 180 people have succumbed to the infection in Islamabad while the figure of active cases is 374.
