CHARSADDA:

Police has successfully solved the blind murder case of an Islamia college student who was killed over honour by his own brother in law and cousins. One of the suspects is a juvenile and student of class 8.

Addressing a press conference here in Charsadda, District Police Officer (DPO) Shoaib Khan said that Owais who was student of Islamia College was mysteriously killed by unknown people on December 6. His father lodged an FIR with police that his son went out of house in the evening as per his daily routine and did not return. His body was found laying the open fields and he had been shot.

“The death resulted in an outcry across the country as people termed it some sort of target killing incident of a Pakthun student putting further pressure on police,” informed the DPO, saying that police took the case as a challenge and started investigation into the case.

“Following into the clues we got during the course of investigation, the investigation team finally reached the brother in law of the deceased Owais who lured the young man out of his home and shot him,” he explained, adding that the three accused Rizwan (name changed), Asad and Ilyas were arrested by police who confessed their crime.

“Ilyas is the brother in law and real murderer who opened firing at Owais leaving him dead on the spot. He suspected that Owais had an illicit relationship with his niece who is just 14 year old and a sister of accused Rizwan and Assad,” said Shoaib, adding that during the course of investigation police found no evidence of any affair between the deceased Owais and his cousin because both their mobile phones were thoroughly examined.

“When we started talking to Rizwan and others initially each time their statement was a changed one so police team was suspicious of them from the day one due to this,” he informed, saying that when they were arrested they confessed that Owais had been killed in the name of honour and the pistol used in the murder had also been recovered from their possession.
