KARACHI:

The Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) has issued directives to the police officers and officials in view of possible terrorist incidents in the province in the next few days.

Terror networks of banned separatist organisations are likely to carry out attacks around the Defence Day of Pakistan, Sindh IGP Mushtaq Mehar warned in a letter issued through Assistant IGP Operations Bashir Ahmed Brohi.

Based on reports from the intelligence agencies, the letter, addressed to range and zonal DIGs, district SSPs and SPs, stated that miscreants from separatist organisations across Pakistan especially in the interior Sindh may try to create an atmosphere of panic and fear by carrying out hand-grenade or locally made hand cracker explosions between September 4 and 7.

Therefore, all the officers are instructed to ensure security at railway stations, centres of sensitive installations, including electricity and gas and other utilities, railway lines, bus terminals, power transmission lines, markets including commodities, fruit markets and other crowded places within their respective jurisdiction by increasing the police patrol in order to ensure the protection of the precious lives and property of the people as well as the public property.

The letter further stated that special care should be taken to ensure that in any case duty point may not be left vacant during the change of duty instead the change of duty may be ensured in a timely manner. In this regard, the special branch and other law enforcement agencies should be kept in constant touch so that any unusual situation can be thwarted in time.
