The Mehran Town factory tragedy case saw significant progress on Monday as the defence presented consent of heirs of victims to grant bail to the suspectgs.
The bail plea of the accused in the Mehran Town case was heard before the Sessions Court East in Karachi City Court. The defence counsel stated that nine people, being heirs of the victims, did not object to the bail of the suspects.
A fire allegedly caused by an electric short-circuit engulfed the industrial unit, BM Luggage, in Mehran Town on August 27 killing 16 workers.
The court inquired as to the legal status of the consent of the heirs of the victims. The court remarked that every crime is against the state, the state itself is the plaintiff.
The defence counsel said that the injured victims and heirs of the deceased have no objection to the bail application of the suspects.
Lawyer of the factory owner Ali Hassan Meetha submitted the consent forms of nine victims in the court. The court remarked that the negligence caused by the fire started with renting out a residential house for a factory. The court expressed anger at the investigation officer and questioned as to why he had written the posts in the challan instead of the names of the accused.
