DUBAI:

Citing British solicitor Charles Guthrie’s statement that former Gilgit-Baltistan chief justice Rana Shamim signed the affidavit at the residence of deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif in London, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has urged the Sharif family to clarify their position on the matter.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Chaudhry described it as an important allegation, adding that, “he thinks the Sharif family should come forward and explain their position.”

Terming the story as fake because the affidavit was signed at the residence of Sharif, he said “when Nawaz Sharif and company was in power, only his ‘films’ were playing and no one paid attention to the original cinema films.”

Chaudhry added that Sharif’s move to flee to London was a big flop. Responding to a question, the information minister said overseas Pakistanis were an asset for the nation and particularly those living in the United Arab Emirates.

Around 1.5 million Pakistanis residing in the UAE were the biggest contributor to remittances, and most of them were using the Roshan Digital Pakistan account, he added.

The minister highlighted that overseas Pakistanis supported Prime Minister Imran Khan and the premier also stood with them firmly. “This combination would take Pakistan forward.”

Towards the end of his address, the information minister said 11 Pakistani films were being screened at the Dubai Film Festival and he had arrived in UAE to support and enjoy the Pakistani stuff.
