IPO leads intellectual property seminar

Stakeholders express concerns about limited focus on IP

ISLAMABAD:

The Intellectual Property Organisation (IPO) of Pakistan, in collaboration with WIPO, HEC, and NUST, organised a transformative seminar on Technology Search and the Development of Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) in the country.

Addressing the event, Chairman IPO Farukh Amil expressed his concern about the limited focus on intellectual property (IP) in Pakistan, emphasising the need for a significant shift. He called for IPO to actively champion research and product development to bolster Pakistan’s innovation landscape, marking a pivotal moment in the nation’s technological journey.

Amil highlighted the existing silos within Pakistan, where academia, industry, and research institutions often operate independently. He stressed that bridging these divides is essential for accelerating technological advancements and fostering innovation.

Additionally, he underscored the importance of agri-tech in combating climate change, emphasising the role of technology in sustainable agricultural practices and food security.

He commended the collaborative efforts of IPO-Pakistan, HEC, and the development of 48 TISCs at HEC-recognised institutions. These partnerships are geared towards enhancing research commercialisation and protecting intellectual property.
