Director Adam Wingard’s “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” has soared at the box office for the second weekend in a row.

Meanwhile Dev Patel’s “Monkey Man” and Arkasha Stevenson’s “The First Omen” did not achieve the box office numbers they were predicted to.

Produced by Legendary Pictures and starring Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry, “Godzilla x Kong” tells the story of an unlikely partnership between Godzilla and Kong as they face a threat fatal both to their race and our own.

In box office records this year, the film is second only to Dune: Part Two, which holds $660 million in global ticket sales and is the highest grossing film of 2024. Despite receiving mixed reviews, its sales are a victory for Warner Bros.

Meanwhile, Patel’s “Monkey Man,” produced by Jordan Peele, tells the story of a struggling young man in a gorilla mask, played by Patel himself, who works in an underground fight club. This ultimately leads him to the elite group behind his mother’s death, which he plans to avenge.

With themes of class conflict, “Monkey Man” received an enthusiastic response from critics at its initial debut at SXSW, but fell below expectations in terms of box office sales.

As a prequel to Richard Donner’s 1976 film, “The Omen,” “The First Omen” stars Nell Tiger Free as a woman who begins to doubt her faith upon discovering a chilling conspiracy involving the birth of the Antichrist.

Stevenson’s film garnered less-than-favorable reviews.
