Pakistani women married in IIOJK face uncertain future

Report says that these women are stranded without valid travel documents, with few options for returning to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD:

Around 350 Pakistani women married to the Kashmiri people in Indian illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) were facing an uncertain future because of the Narendra Modi-led Indian government’s discriminatory laws and restrictions, Radio Pakistan reported on Sunday.

These women, who went to occupied Jammu and Kashmir under a rehabilitation programme decades ago, are now stranded with no valid travel documents and limited options for returning to Pakistan, the report said.

Rights groups and activists have raised concerns about the violation of these women’s rights especially denying them citizenship and preventing them from returning to their families. According to the Kashmir Media Service, the Modi regime was distorting facts to promote a false narrative IIOJK.

The report maintained that continued detentions, use of draconian laws against the Kashmiris, every day raids and cordon-and-search operations debunked India’s claim of normalcy. The report urged the international community to press India to allow the Kashmiris to decide their future by themselves.

On the other hand, People’s Democratic Party leader Waheedur Rehman Parra said that the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir were not happy with New Delhi and the Lok Sabha elections should be considered as a referendum against India.
