Drone cameras banned for seven days in Karachi

City’s traffic police issue advisories regarding temporary closure of roads on April 23

In light of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s ongoing visit to Pakistan, Karachi authorities have enforced strict security measures, including a temporary ban on the use of drone cameras for seven days.

Karachi Commissioner, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has issued a notification detailing the prohibition of drone camera usage from April 22 to April 28 as part of the city's security protocols.

The notification empowers the relevant Station House Officer (SHO) to take necessary action against any violations of this ban.

Meanwhile, Karachi’s traffic police have issued advisories regarding the temporary closure of roads on April 23 in various parts of the city.

The closure includes Club Road, extending from PIDC to Metropole, and Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road, which will be shut for traffic from Ziauddin Road Bridge to PIDC Chowk. Additionally, Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road will witness closures from Khajoor Chowk to PIDC.

To facilitate traffic diversion, drivers coming from Sultanabad are encouraged to use Dr Ziauddin Road to access Aiwan-e-Sadr Road via Khajoor Chowk. Those traveling from Sharea Faisal to Sultanabad should turn left at Club Chowk. Access to Clifton Bridge and Boat Basin can be attained by turning left from Club Chowk.

For commuters from Khaliq-ul-Zaman Road and Ghazri, the recommended route involves a right turn at Ziauddin traffic signal, proceeding towards Fawara Chowk and Aiwan-e-Sadar. Similarly, individuals coming from Shaheen Complex should make a right turn at Khajoor Chowk.

Commissioner Naqvi has already declared April 23 as a public holiday in Karachi in anticipation of President Raisi's arrival.

As per the announcement, all private and government offices, as well as educational institutions in the Karachi Division, will remain closed on Tuesday, April 23. This decision aims to minimise inconvenience to the public and ensure a smooth reception for the Iranian delegation.

President Raisi arrived in Islamabad earlier today for his official visit, which holds significant international interest given the ongoing tensions between Tehran and Israel.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended a warm welcome to President Raisi, noting that he is the first foreign leader to visit Pakistan following the general elections held on February 8.

While the visit is being closely monitored by the global community, it is noted that the United States may view it unfavourably due to its efforts to isolate Iran. However, Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to the visit, clarifying to the US that the engagement was planned well in advance of the current regional tensions.
