Owen Wilson reportedly turned down a $12 million offer to star in a movie which portrays O.J. Simpson as innocent in the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.
The movie "The Juice," labeled as a "satirical thriller," centers on real-life attorney Douglas McCann, who represented Simpson in a civil case in 2000.
Director Joshua Newton informed The Hollywood Reporter that he had a meeting with Wilson to discuss the possibility of Wilson playing the role of McCann, but another actor has since been cast in the role.
"Owen Wilson was perfect for the role," Newton said.
"I actually had a meeting with him in Santa Monica. Everybody loved the script. His agent wanted him to do it. We offered him $12 million. But at the end of the lunch, Owen stood up and said, 'If you think I'm going to take the lead role in a movie about how O.J. didn't do it, you've got to be kidding me,'" Newton recounted about his meeting with Wilson.
OJ Simpson passed away in early April. He was acquitted in 1995 of the murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman, a trial that drew a large live and television audience.
In 1997, a civil court jury found Simpson responsible for the deaths, ordering him to pay $33.5 million to their families.
Newton informed The Hollywood Reporter that despite Wilson's decision not to take part in the movie, he managed to cast an actor who perfectly fit the role and aims to finish filming by early October.
