One killed, 15 injured as varsity bus overturns

Officials say the bus was plying at a high speed and it hit an electric pole before overturning

A female pedestrian was killed while 15 others sustained injuries when the driver of a private university bus lost control of the vehicle before colliding with a roadside wall and overturned on Abid Majeed Road in the RA Bazaar area of Rawalpindi on Thursday.

According to the details, the driver of the bus of the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST), carrying the varsity employees, suddenly lost control of the vehicle on Abid Majeed Road and drove it on the sidewalk before ramming into the sidewall and overturning as a result. Following the incident, the diesel started to flow from the vehicle, prompting fears of the vehicle catching fire.

Meanwhile, a team of rescue officials rushed to the scene and gave first aid to the 15 injured, including the bus driver, before shifting them to a local hospital.

Quoting the eyewitnesses, the officials said the bus was plying at a high speed and it hit an electric pole before overturning.

Cantt Deputy Superintendent of Police Mirza Javed Iqbal said all the injured were been shifted to the Combined Military Hospital, where they were receiving emergency medical treatment.
