In a recent interview with GQ, Song and producer Christine Vachon kept details about “Materialists” under wraps, but Vachon hinted at the film's uniqueness, saying, “It feels like she makes a different movie every time, that she’s going to be the kind of filmmaker who doesn’t make the same movie twice.”

“Materialists” is described as a romcom inspired by James L. Brooks’s ‘80s films.

The film is set in New York City, known for its vibrant and dynamic relationships, and follows Lucy, a sought-after matchmaker whose services come at a premium.

However, complications arise, leading to a toxic love triangle that threatens to unravel the lives of all involved
