PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah on Thursday underscored the necessity for the PTI to adopt a more “serious approach” towards political dialogue, citing “inconsistencies” in the party’s statements.

Speaking to a private TV channel, the PML-N leader urged all the political parties to “sit together” to steer the country out of the current political and economic crises.

Replying to a question whether the PML-N planned to constitute a body for talks with other political parties, particularly the PTI, Sanaullah said, “Absolutely, we as a political party and [I] as a [political] worker, think that right now, the solution to the political situation faced by the country is that dialogue is held”.

Sanaullah noted that the PTI gave “conflicting” statement for talks with the government.

“One day, they give a statement in this favour (of talks) and the next day, another leader says otherwise. If there is a display of seriousness from there, then absolutely, this dialogue should take place between political parties,” he said.

During a Senate session last month, PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui extended an invitation to PTI for talks on the directive of party leadership.

On the same day, PTI leader Shehryar Afridi expressed intentions to engage in discussions with the establishment.

However, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan later clarified that the party was not currently holding “backdoor talks” with anyone.

Gohar’s statement came just a day after it was reported that the incarcerated founding party founder Imran Khan had green-lit negotiations with the establishment and political forces.
