SHC to hear plea against deputy PM

Petitioner argued that there was no post of deputy prime minister in the Constitution

KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday sought arguments from the petitioner and the copy of order of the Supreme Court regarding the admissibility of a petition against the notification of the appointment of Foreign Minister Ishaq Daki as the deputy prime minister.

Tariq Mansoor Advocate, the lawyer for the petitioner argued in the court that there was no post of deputy prime minister in the Constitution. He added that the Articles 90, 91 and 99 of the Constitution, as well as Federal Government's Rules of Business, did not mention deputy prime minister.

The court remarked that previously Chaudhry Parvez Elahi was appointed deputy prime minister. The lawyer replied that there was Supreme Court’s order on the matter, adding that the Supreme Court had decided that the cabinet would consist only of the prime minister and the federal ministers.
The court adjourned the hearing till May 16.
