Medicine home delivery begins

200k patients to get two-month stock of drugs

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated a Free Medicine Delivery Project for the people across the province.

The chief minister launched ten scheme aby herself taking medicines to the homes of cardiac patients Rasoolan Bibi and Munawar Malik in narrow streets of the Shaman Katchi Abadi.

She enquired after the patients and prayed for their health. Malik thanked the CM and said now he would not have to face inconvenience in hospitals.

The chief minister also inaugurated a facilitation centre in the Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare department.

She also formally resumed the registration process of TB and hepatitis patients.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also inspected a drug testing lab being established to check the quality of medicines. She visited the chromatography, drug release, sample receiving, hepatitis referral and public health laboratories.

She was given a briefing on the medicine home delivery programme and apprised about the process from packing up to delivery.

CM Maryam Nawaz also recorded a podcast for the FM Sehat Zindagi channel. She laid the foundation stone of the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Development Wing and inspected a van for the doctors.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the medicine delivery service, she said, ''We have launched such a mega public welfare project in a short span of eight weeks.”

She lamented that the previous government had abolished the project, depriving the poor people of the medicine service.

The Punjab government has extended the scope of the project to all cities of the province.

Under the project, 200,000 patients will be delivered medicines at their doorstep.

Medicine stock for two months of hepatitis,TB and cardiac patients will be delivered to the patients.

They will be delivered the medicines again after undergoing check-up.

“I want no one to remain deprived of treatment facility in Punjab five years later and the patients should not face any hassle in the hospitals,” she said.

The chief minister said 32 field hospitals had been made functional to serve the people in rural areas.

She said she had witnessed women waiting for treatment in a field hospital during her recent visit to Bahawalpur. The Clinic On Wheels project will also be launched soon.

“We are establishing the first state of the art government cancer hospital in Lahore where patients will be provided free treatment. I have directed the minister concerned to functionalise the outdoor wing of the hospital.

The chief minister said the previous government had halted PML-N's development projects.

She said every city should have cardiology, paediatrics and cancer treatment facilities.

The air ambulance project will be launched in a few weeks.

Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, MNA Aun Chaudhry,Provincial Ministers Azma Zahid Bokhari, Khawaja Salman Rafique, Khawaja Imran Nazir, chairman of P&D, secretaries of health and information and other officials were also present on the occasion.
