New training centre in Islamabad to boost education and employment

Education ministry, GIK Institute, and NAVTTC sign tripartite memorandum

The Ministry of Federal Education, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, and the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) have signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a new training centre in Islamabad, as per a press release issued on Saturday.

The MoU, signed by the federal secretary of education, the rector of GIK Institute, and the executive director of NAVTTC, sets out a partnership agreement among the three entities.

The signing ceremony was attended by Shakil Durrani, executive director of the Society for the Promotion of Engineering Sciences and Technology in Pakistan, Amir Jan, executive director of NAVTTC, Prof Dr Fazal Khalid, Rector of GIK Institute, Sardar Aminullah Khan, Prof Dr S M Hasan Zaidi, and officials from the ministry.

Federal Secretary of Education Mohiuddin Wani stated, “The establishment of the new training center aims to serve as a hub for pioneering research, hands-on learning experiences, and professional development initiatives. It is expected to enhance the academic landscape and contribute to the socioeconomic growth of the nation by producing highly skilled graduates equipped to address the challenges of the 21st century.”

Salim Saifullah Khan, president of SOPREST, praised the GIK Institute for its commitment to delivering high-quality education in engineering sciences. He highlighted the significance of the MoU in advancing the goal of providing quality education to unemployed youth, thereby fostering a culture of learning and empowering individuals to realize their full potential.

Durrani, speaking about GIK Institute’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, emphasized that the program would enhance employment opportunities for unemployed engineers and master’s degree holders. The training provided will align with the needs of the local industry, thereby contributing to skill development and employment generation.

Prof Khalid remarked, “The Federal Education Ministry’s initiative to develop such centers in collaboration with top universities signifies a concerted effort to promote innovation, excellence, and education advancement.”

He highlighted that the partnership represented a shared commitment to innovation, excellence, and educational advancement.

“The center aims to provide unparalleled opportunities for students, educators, and professionals alike,” he added.
