Police recover minister’s stolen vehicle

Arrests accused and entire gang of car thieves operating in Pindi and K-P

The official double cabin vehicle belonging to the Gilgit Baltistan Provincial Education Minister, Ghulam Shahzad Agha, which was stolen from D Block, Satellite Town, was recovered by the New Town police and the accused was arrested.

The accused thief was associated with an organised gang of car lifters. The police were able to trace this gang, arrest its members and recover six more stolen vehicles from their possession.

The case details concerning the minister’s stolen vehicle described that his double cabin Vigo was lifted from outside his residence in D Block, Satellite Town in March 2024.

Rawalpindi CPO Khalid Hamdani had assigned the task of tracing the vehicle to SP Rawal Faisal Saleem and SHO Newtown Sub-Inspector Luqman Javed.

After tracing the active inter-provincial group of car thieves and raiding different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Landi Kotal, Charsadda, Peshawar and Rawalpindi, other the members of the group, including accused named, Yasir and Tariq, were arrested and the minister’s vehicle and six other vehicles were recovered.

The accused had planned to take the provincial minister's car out of Rawalpindi and move it to Landi Kotal when they were detained. Police sources said that after stealing double cabin vehicles, the accused used to deliver cars in Landi Kotal and Charsadda for Rs700,000 to Rs800,000. The gang also sold Mehran cars for Rs200,000 to Rs250,000.

Rawalpindi SSP Operations, Hafiz Kamran Asghar, appreciated and congratulated the performance of the police team. He assured that the accused will be fined with the aid of concrete evidence and will be brought to justice.
