‘Game of Thrones’ star Ian Gelder passes away at 74 following battle with cancer

British actor Ian Gelder, best known for his portrayal of Kevan Lannister in "Game of Thrones," passed away on Monday due to complications from bile duct cancer at the age of 74. 

 

His partner, Ben Daniels, shared the sad news on Instagram, writing, "It is with huge sadness and a heavy heart broken into a million pieces that I’m leaving this post to announce the passing of my darling husband and life partner Ian Gelder."

Gelder appeared in 12 episodes of the HBO series as the younger brother of Lord Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance). His prolific career included roles in "Doctor Who," "Snatch," "Fifteen-Love," "Casualty," "His Dark Materials," and many other notable television series.

 

He was also a celebrated stage actor, appearing in productions like "The Crucible," "The Taming of the Shrew," and "The Front Page."

 

"He was a wonderful, wonderful actor and everyone who worked with him was touched by his heart and light," Daniels added. "I honestly don’t know what I’ll do without him by my side."

 

Gelder's impact on the entertainment industry will be remembered fondly by his peers and fans.
