Harvey Weinstein's survivors outraged at overturning of rape conviction

Other Hollywood celebs are calling it a setback for survivors and the #MeToo movement.

Hollywood is reeling with outrage following the news that Harvey Weinstein's New York rape conviction has been overturned by an appeals court.

The disgraced producer, sentenced to 23 years in 2020, will remain in prison due to a separate rape conviction in Los Angeles.

Ashley Judd, one of Weinstein's first accusers, condemned the ruling as "unfair to survivors," while Rosanna Arquette expressed deep disappointment. Rose McGowan, who accused Weinstein of rape, emphasized the strength and resilience of those who spoke out.

Mira Sorvino, who alleged sexual harassment by Weinstein, called the justice system skewed towards predators, a sentiment echoed by Amber Tamblyn and Ellen Barkin. Rosie Perez, who testified in the trial, expressed her shock on Twitter.

Tarana Burke, founder of the #MeToo movement underscored the ongoing need for activism in the face of such setbacks.

Weinstein's statement, calling it  "a great day for America,"  further inflamed the outrage. The wave of accusations against Weinstein in 2017 ignited the #MeToo movement, with over 80 women alleging sexual assault and harassment.
